SABA MISONI (Miso-Simmered Mackerel)
A Thoughtful Home Meal with Miso-Simmered Mackerel
In many Japanese homes, meals are built around balance.
Rice and soup.
A few small side dishes.
One main prepared to go well with rice.

This is a familiar home-style teishoku.
Simple, steady, and something you can eat every day.

For that main dish, miso-simmered mackerel is a classic choice.

On a simple tray, you might find tamagoyaki, miso soup, and onigiri. And for the main dish, miso-simmered mackerel is often the one we choose.
Starting with rich, fatty Joban-mono mackerel, it is gently simmered in miso from Minamisoma, Fukushima. The sauce develops just the right balance of sweetness and depth, soaking beautifully into the fish.

It’s comforting, balanced, and made to go perfectly with rice, a flavor you never get tired of. Miso-simmered mackerel is a classic in Japanese homes.

The Craft Behind Every Fillet
Because it’s simple, the small details matter: careful prep, the right heat, the right timing. For this dish, it's removed the bones and sources of odor, then gently cook the fish to its best state.

Each fillet is simmered in local Fukushima miso and sealed at its most delicious moment using Japan’s precise vacuum-packing technique, so you can enjoy this traditional taste at home in Singapore with ease. All you have to do is warm it up.
How to Prepare

1. Defrost in the refrigerator
Place the unopened pouch in the fridge and allow it to thaw naturally.
2. Warm gently in a pan
-
Line a frying pan with baking paper.
-
Place the thawed mackerel with its sauce onto the paper.
-
Heat on low, allowing it to warm slowly until fully heated through.
Tips
★Miso burns easily, so low heat is best.
★Baking paper prevents sticking and keeps the sauce glossy and smooth.

For an even lighter, more comforting finish, try serving the mackerel over freshly grated daikon radish.
It aids digestion and brings a clean, refreshing contrast to the rich miso, making this dish feel even more like a thoughtful home meal.
