Hakata Pione Grape 博多ピオーネ

Large, with Low Acidity and a Refreshing Sweetness

Fukuoka's Luxurious Summer Fruit

Hakata Pione is one of Fukuoka Prefecture's premium grapes, representing a luxurious taste of summer.

It's a variety, a cross between Kyoho and Kanon Hall Muscat, is larger than Kyoho and has less acidity.
It features a pleasant texture and the refreshing sweetness of muscat, making it popular with consumers of all ages.

The taste of Pione is characterized by a strong sweetness combined with a refreshing acidity, providing a crisp and delightful flavor.
They have excellent flavor, being juicy with a sugar content of 16 degrees or higher, and they boast a strong sweetness complemented by a well-balanced acidity.
Despite their large size, they are packed with juicy flesh, thanks to their Muscat heritage, which imparts a refreshing aroma and easy-to-eat quality not found in Kyoho grapes.

-

Rich Flavor and Aroma

Hakata Pione grapes are large, with low acidity, juicy pulp, and refined sweetness. When eaten, they release a refreshing muscat-like aroma, offering a luxurious taste experience.
-

Visual Appeal
The large, glossy purple-black berries are visually stunning and appetizing. The white powder (bloom) on the surface is a sign of freshness and nature's way of protecting the fruit.
-

Dedicated Cultivation
Hakata Pione grapes are carefully grown using low-pesticide methods. Some producers use unique organic fertilizers and reduced pesticide farming techniques, emphasizing safety and quality.
-

Commitment to Freshness
Harvested early in the morning and sorted and shipped on the same day, these grapes reach consumers at peak freshness. This rapid distribution system maintains the high quality of Hakata Pione.

Seasonal Luxury
Hakata Pione grapes are a seasonal fruit, mainly shipped from early July to August. This limited availability adds to their special appeal.

Regional Pride
In production areas like Ukiha City in Fukuoka Prefecture, Hakata Pione and other fresh fruits and produce are sold at roadside stations, becoming a source of local pride.

Hakata Pione grapes are truly a luxurious summer fruit, embodying rich flavors, beautiful appearance, and dedicated production methods.

*We will use Japanese fruit boxes for packaging, considering factors such as damage prevention and hygiene.

The Secrets of Grape's Sweetness

Generally, grapes tend to be sweeter towards the shoulder or upper part of the bunch.
Therefore, when you start eating from the lower part and move upwards, you'll notice that the sweetness gradually intensifies, making it more enjoyable to eat.
Grapes ripen from the top of the cluster down, so the upper part typically has higher sugar content and is sweeter compared to the lower part.

How to Store Grapes?

Grapes are a fruit that doesn't have a long shelf life, so it's wise to consume them as soon as possible.

The best way to store grapes is in the refrigerator.
The white powder (bloom) on the skin of grapes serves to maintain their freshness, so it's advisable not to wash it off until just before eating.

If you want to extend their shelf life even slightly, you can use scissors to cut them individually and place them in a storage bag or an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also freeze them in this state.
When you're ready to eat, simply take out the portion you need and give them a quick rinse with water before enjoying.

When cutting the grapes from the stem, it's better to use scissors rather than pulling them off by hand.
Pulling them off by hand can create holes where the stem was attached, causing the juice to leak out and accelerate spoilage.
