Pesticide-Free Premium Japanese Rice | Nagano Tateshina Highlands (2kg)

A Japanese rice with beautifully fluffy grains and a gentle natural sweetness that deepens with every bite.

We've recently welcomed a new arrival from Iijima Farm, located in the Tateshina Highlands of Nagano Prefecture, where the family has been growing rice for more than 20 years.

Their philosophy is simple:

"Because it's something we eat every day, it should be both safe and truly delicious."

With that belief, they carefully nurture their fields from the soil up, using beneficial microorganisms to enrich the land. Throughout the growing season, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used.

What matters most at Iijima Farm is healthy soil.

Rather than relying on chemicals, they patiently improve the soil with natural microorganisms, allowing the rice fields themselves to become healthier year after year.

Even weeds are removed by hand.

It's not the easiest or most efficient way to grow rice.

But they believe this dedication is what allows the rice's natural flavour to shine.

Why the Tateshina Highlands Are Ideal for Growing Rice

The Tateshina Highlands offer an ideal environment for rice cultivation.

  • Large temperature differences between day and night
  • Long hours of sunshine
  • Pure spring water flowing from Mt. Tateshina
  • Clay-rich soil with excellent drainage and moisture retention

These natural conditions allow the starch produced during the day to be preserved through the cool nights, helping the rice develop its characteristic natural sweetness.

The result is rice known for:

  • Beautiful, well-defined grains
  • A glossy finish after cooking
  • A pleasantly balanced stickiness
  • The gentle sweetness that Koshihikari rice is famous for

Its quality has also earned the appreciation of many professional chefs in Japan.

Because no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used during the growing season, rice cultivation requires considerably more time and care.

Weeds are removed by hand, the soil is carefully nurtured, and healthy microorganisms are encouraged to flourish naturally.

Every step takes patience.

And every step contributes to rice that is not only delicious, but something you can enjoy at your table every day with confidence.
