A Little Further from Tokyo. A Day with Mt. Fuji.

One-Day Private Trip · Oshino Hakkai & Lake Yamanaka

Your own guide, a private vehicle, and pick-up from your Tokyo hotel. A day for lakeside views, local food, and time together.

There’s plenty to enjoy in Tokyo, from shopping to deciding where to eat next. But it’s lovely to leave the city for a day, too.

Walk beside spring-fed ponds filled with snowmelt from Mt. Fuji. Spend a little time by the lake. Sit down to a bowl of houtou, the local noodle dish. A day out gives you a chance to see a little more of Japan, beyond the city.

But getting there takes some planning.

Which train should you take?
Where do you change to a bus?
And how much can you comfortably fit into a day, especially when travelling with family or friends?

This private trip takes you to Oshino Hakkai and Lake Yamanaka, with an English-speaking guide and a vehicle just for your group. You can discuss the itinerary beforehand and make room for the things you’d most like to do.

▶︎ 9am | Start in Your Hotel Lobby.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel within Tokyo’s 23 wards.

Get comfortable in the car, and you’re on your way towards Mt. Fuji. There are no train changes to work out or bus timetables to check. Just time to look out of the window, chat, and watch the city gradually give way to a different landscape.

Your first stop is Oshino Hakkai.

▶︎ 11:30am | Oshino Hakkai. Take a Closer Look at the Water.

Oshino Hakkai is known for its clear spring ponds, fed by snowmelt from Mt. Fuji.

Walk around the ponds and take in the traditional buildings nearby. The water is clear enough to make you stop and look a little longer. Take a few photographs, peer into the ponds, or find a spot where you can enjoy the view.

There’s time to browse for souvenirs and pick up a local snack along the way, too. If something catches your eye and you’re not sure what it is, you have someone there to ask.

▶︎ 12:30pm | Lake Yamanaka. Mt. Fuji Across the Water.

Next, you’ll head to a lakeside viewpoint at Lake Yamanaka.

On a clear day, Mt. Fuji rises beyond the lake, with open water and sky around it. It’s a different view from the glimpses you might catch between buildings in the city.

Take a photograph together, then put the camera down for a while. The lake, the trees along the shore, and the changing seasons are all part of being here.

Views of Mt. Fuji depend on the weather and cloud conditions.

▶︎ 1:30pm | Something Local for Lunch.

Lunch is a good reason to get to know a place a little better.

In Yamanashi, you might like to try houtou: wide noodles and vegetables simmered in a hearty miso broth. After a morning out walking, a warm bowl sounds rather good.

If you have another Japanese dish in mind, you can discuss that with your guide. Let them know beforehand about any food preferences or dietary requirements, so you can talk through the options.

Lunch is paid for separately.

▶︎ 2:30pm | A Swan Boat, If You Fancy It.

In the afternoon, you have the option of taking a swan-shaped pedal boat out onto Lake Yamanaka.

Spend around 20–30 minutes on the water, taking turns pedalling and deciding which way to go. It’s a little playful, and perhaps the sort of thing you wouldn’t usually put on your itinerary.

But pedalling across a lake together can be just as memorable as the photographs you came to take.

The boat ride is optional. If you’d prefer to skip it, speak with your guide about how you’d like to spend that time.

Available weather permitting, with an additional fee paid on-site.

▶︎ Make the Day Your Own.

Travelling with children and would like a little more time between stops?
Keen to spend longer taking photographs?
Have something particular you’d like to eat for lunch?

You can discuss these details with your guide before booking.
Tell them who you’re travelling with and what you’d enjoy, and ask how the itinerary can be adjusted.

At the end of the day, you’ll be driven back to your Tokyo hotel.

An outing to the foot of Mt. Fuji, with the travel arrangements taken care of.
A lovely addition to a few days in Tokyo.
