A Day in Nikko. The Colours of Autumn.
A private trip from Tokyo to Shinkyo Bridge, Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji, with your own guide and vehicle.

Red and gold across the mountains. A waterfall dropping into a deep gorge.
A lake beneath Mt. Nantai, with autumn colours along its shores.
In autumn, Nikko is a place to bring your camera and spend a day outdoors.
The scenery changes as you climb from the town into the mountains, giving you a different view of the season along the way.

Your Day in Nikko
▶︎ 9am | Meet Your Guide at Your Hotel
Your day begins at your hotel in central Tokyo. Meet your driver-guide, settle into your private vehicle and head towards Nikko.
The drive takes approximately two hours, depending on traffic. Along the way, your guide can introduce the area’s history and help you get a sense of the places you’ll be visiting. A rest stop can be arranged en route.

▶︎ 11:20am | Shinkyo Bridge
A red bridge above the river, with autumn trees framing the view.
Shinkyo Bridge marks the entrance to Nikko’s shrine and temple area.
Your first stop is a chance to take photographs and enjoy the setting before continuing into the mountains.

▶︎ 11:40pm | Through the Colours of Irohazaka
The road winds uphill, revealing more of the mountains as you climb.
Irohazaka is known for its sharp bends and autumn scenery. Red, orange and yellow spread across the slopes, with the view changing around each curve. This stretch of the journey is part of the day’s experience, with plenty to look at through the window.

▶︎ 12:10pm | Kegon Falls
At Kegon Falls, water drops approximately 97 metres into the gorge below.
Take in the waterfall from the free viewing area, or choose the optional paid elevator to the lower observation deck for a closer view. Against the surrounding autumn foliage, the scale of the falls becomes especially striking.

▶︎ 1:00pm | Lunch by Lake Chuzenji
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant near the lake.
If you’d like to try something associated with Nikko, ask your guide about yuba, or tofu skin. It is a local speciality, served in a variety of dishes.
Your guide can help you choose a restaurant based on your preferences. Please share any food allergies or dietary requirements in advance.
Lunch is paid separately.

▶︎ A Walk Beside Lake Chuzenji
After lunch, spend some time by the water.
Lake Chuzenji sits high in the mountains, with Mt. Nantai rising beside it. Walk along the shore, take photographs and enjoy the colours around the lake. Your guide will suggest viewpoints according to the day’s conditions.
Bring a warm layer. The mountain air can feel considerably cooler than Tokyo.

▶︎ 2:30 PM · Back Down the Mountain
Begin the descent along Irohazaka, seeing the landscape from a different direction.
The planned route brings you down before the later afternoon traffic builds. Autumn is a popular time to visit, so your guide may adjust the timing or order of stops according to road and foliage conditions.

▶︎ 3:00 PM · The Drive Back to Tokyo
Settle into your seat for the journey back, which takes approximately two hours depending on traffic.
Your guide can also share suggestions for restaurants and places to visit during the rest of your stay in Tokyo.

▶︎ Around 5:00 PM · Back at Your Hotel
Return to your hotel in central Tokyo after a day among Nikko’s mountains, waterfalls and autumn colours.
Arrival time depends on traffic. During the busiest foliage periods, the return may be later than scheduled.

◎ A Day Planned Around the Season
Autumn arrives at different times across Nikko’s elevations, and the colours vary with the weather each year.
Your guide checks the foliage and traffic conditions to help plan the route for your visit. If there is a particular view you hope to photograph, or you would prefer less walking, share this when arranging your trip.
The itinerary can be customised to your interests, subject to timing and local conditions.
