The Evening Lingers over a Glass of Umeshu
Rich plum flavour, mellowed over five unhurried years

There’s still light coming through the window, and a little time before dinner.
Open the wooden box and take out the bottle. Untie the cord around the gold wrapping, then pour a little umeshu over ice. In the light, its amber colour looks especially beautiful.
Bring your book to the table, or pour another glass for someone joining you. It’s a lovely way to spend an evening at home.

Made by Manzairaku in Ishikawa, this is Kaga Umeshu, aged for five years. A bottle to enjoy at your own table, with a book beside you or someone to share it with.

◎ The plum flavour is what we love.
Kaga Umeshu has long been a favourite at JX.TODAY.
There’s plenty of sweetness, but you can also taste the plum’s gentle acidity and enjoy its fragrance. The flavour is full and rich, yet the finish is clean.
That balance is a large part of its appeal. You get the richness of the plum without it feeling too heavy. In the five-year-aged version, the flavour is deeper and the texture more rounded.

◎ Made with Benisashi plums from Hokuriku.
Manzairaku uses only Benisashi plums grown in Japan’s Hokuriku region. Their name comes from the red blush that appears on the skin as they ripen.
These plums are known for their fragrance and mellow richness. According to the brewery, they contain more amino acids than common premium varieties such as Nanko, which contribute to their umami.

Kaga Umeshu is made with these plums, rock sugar, brewing alcohol, and underground water from the Tedori River system. From growing the plums to steeping and bottling, everything takes place in Hokuriku.

◎ What changes after five years?
Even the regular Kaga Umeshu is aged for around two years. This bottle spends five years maturing in the brewery.
Over time, its sweetness, acidity, and subtle bitter and astringent notes come together. The plum flavour deepens, and the texture becomes more mellow.
You still have the refreshing finish of Kaga Umeshu, with more richness to enjoy before it fades.
The five-year-aged bottle received a Gold medal at IWSC 2025. Judges noted lively plum aromas, almond-like richness, and lingering floral sweetness. Those details give you something to look for as you take another sip.

◎ A glass before dinner, or a little after.
We like enjoying it over ice, taking our time as the ice slowly melts.
The flavour is fuller at first, then gradually softens. Read a few pages and take another sip, or sit together and talk about your day.
After dinner, a small glass on its own is lovely too. You can enjoy its aroma and flavour without needing to prepare anything else.

The wooden box makes it a lovely gift, but opening it for yourself is a pleasure too.
The bottle can be part of an ordinary evening at home, enjoyed a little at a time.
How to enjoy
On the rocks
Add a large piece of ice to a glass and pour over a small serving. Sip slowly and enjoy the changing flavour as the ice melts.
Straight
Serve a little on its own to appreciate the plum’s fragrance and the depth of five years of ageing.
With soda
Add soda water to taste for a lighter, refreshing glass alongside a meal.
